Balsamic-Macerated Strawberries

Serves 4
A delicious accompaniment for your favorite dessert—or even breakfast! These berries are delicious with super creamy vanilla ice cream, our olive oil cake, or your favorite yogurt.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces strawberries (hulled and cut into quarters (about 2 cups))
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon aged balsamic vinegar (plus more to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)

Directions

  1. In a non-reactive bowl, toss strawberries, sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar until well-combined.
  2. Set aside to macerate (soften) until a syrup forms at the bottom of bowl, at least 15 minutes. You may also refrigerate overnight.
  3. Before serving, sprinkle berries with freshly ground black pepper and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Toss and adjust to taste.
