Caramelized Walla Walla Onion Dip

This dip is destined to be a standout summer picnic player. The seasonal star ingredient—Walla Walla Sweet Onions—adds sweet-savory depth and intoxicating layers of complexity. The garlic and hot sauce rounds out the flavors with a hint of warmth. Pair with your favorite chips, sliced baguette, or raw vegetables and indulge in creamy, melty perfection. 

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 Walla Walla sweet onions, sliced (about 2 cups)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Pepper, to taste
  • A few dashes of hot sauce

Directions

  1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add onions and cook 15 to 20 minutes or until onions are very soft and golden brown. Cool slightly.
  2. In a food processor, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, and garlic. Whirl until blended. Add onion. Pulse until finely chopped. Add salt, pepper, and hot sauce, to taste. (Cover and chill if made ahead.)
  3. Serve with your favorite chips, sliced baguette, or raw vegetables.
